Just before noon today Adventure Dave stopped by and said to me "can every day be like this one?" I think we all had the sentiment today. The weather was gorgeous, the kids were in great moods, the food was awesome and it was just one those perfect camp days that you hope for.
After our 4th of July celebration yesterday everyone seemed ready to get back to the fun of regular activities, which was good, because there was so much going on in and out of Camp today.
In cooking Mia was teaching the girls how to mix and make savory and sweet pancakes. Please note that the jar on the table is filled with soy nut and not peanut butter. No nuts on this campus!
The Junior Camp play has been cast, and throughout the day campers with lines and singing parts were learning their lines and blocking their scenes...
While our Tech Crew was learning the finer points of lighting design and sound mixing from Rob.
Coach Sarah was running target practice at Lacrosse all day...
While the Senior Basketball Courts were the sight of some pretty fierce but fun scrimmages.
It was all goofiness and smiles as our girls prepared for an upcoming Gymnastics tournament...
And it was the same in Arts & Crafts as our girls made signs for a friend's upcoming birthday celebration.
The Kenwood Freshmen successfully completed their first mountain hike of the summer...
While Coach James ran basketball drills in the Gym.
All morning and afternoon campers were swinging like monkeys from the top of the Ropes Course...
And Coach Kim spent her day teaching Evergreen campers of all ages how to fast pitch a softball.
These girls also loved going to Cooking and made me promise to post this photo. I was more than happy to oblige.
Tonight was Cookout, and our Evergreen Junior Counselors spent the evening cooking a delicious meal for all of Evergreen.
During Kenwood's Cookout these camp friends hung out together on the swing set...
While it was also the first annual Compound Fest in the Freshmen Sophomore Compound. Campers and counselors took a risk getting up and jamming for their friends. One of our new campers is a talented singer songwriter and everyone turned out to hear him play in a 4-piece rock combo. Afterwards, the music counselors and I spent a half hour or so playing the second side of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" for everyone.
After dinner Evergreen Junior Camp had one of its best evening activities in the basement of Cypress Lodge: Black Light Dance Party. Deena and Courtney blacked out the windows and replaced all of the overhead lights with 4-foot black light tubes. Just for a little more fun I installed some machines that project moving geometric shapes made out of lasers. As you can see from these photos a VERY good time was had by all.
As the sun was setting Coach Chris and I hopped in my car and met the Freshmen Boys at their mountain campsite. Always looking to pique their scientific curiosity, we brought rock salt, cream, vanilla extract, a handful of plastic bags and two spoons of sugar. Much to their amazement we taught them how to make homemade ice cream without any machinery or electricity. The boys loved learning this new skill, and REALLY loved the taste of their creation.
Every day here is a mixture of excitement, enthusiasm, and adventure. Every day here is different, intriguing and a chance to do something you've never done before. Every day here could not be more precious.
Please note that there will be no blog tomorrow, however, there will be a new weekly wrap up video on Friday evening!
