Our very happy campers have year round camp spirit

This week I got a nice note from the Erman family. While on vacation in Colorado they bumped into the Edinburgs! Mrs. Erman sent us this great photo of all four of our campers together, and it reminded us that it was time to talk about this year's photo contests.

Our Brother Sister Summer Camp Community Lasts All Year Long

Our brother sister summer camp community lasts all year long

The amazing summer of 2014 at Camps Kenwood and Evergreen ended one week ago. While the members of our camp family are now scattered all over the four corners of the globe we wanted to remind you that our brother-sister summer camp community lasts all year long. Just days after saying goodbye to everyone at the bus stops the Sebells and Brody families were in Ogunquit, Maine, and we were thrilled to see Brooke Spiegel and her family, and Brandon Mauricio and his. We look forward to a fall and winter of bumping into as many of our campers, counselors, parents and alumni as we can!

Two Amazing Movies About Our Brother Sister Summer Camps In NH

Two amazing movies about our brother-sister summer camps in NH

Well, I wrote that last night's blog was going to be my last for a couple of weeks, but I guess I'm going to have to go back on that. I needed to share this two amazing movies that Sheila, our Camp photographer, showed at our two camps' closing banquets. Sheila went through the more than 12,000 photos that she took this summer and picked the best ones, and then set them to music picked by our senior campers.

The slideshows cover just about every amazing moment of the summer from Opening to Closing day, including jell-o wrestling, gold rush, sports tournaments, theatrical productions, hollowpallooza, world cup, carnival, trips down the zip line, our first moments on the field of dreams, regular daily activities and more! The photos capture our campers taking healthy risks, finding their passions and being their best selves. And, of course, they also show what our community is about at its core: having incredible amounts of fun while making deep and meaningful friendships.

The end of an amazing summer for our brother-sister summer camp

This morning, just after the sun rose, 66 Kenwood campers and counselors lined the docks for the final Polar Swim of the summer. It was the single largest group we've ever had for this event, and it was an amazing way to start the final day of the summer of 2014!

Our Brother-Sister Summer Camp In NH Starts To Say Goodbye

With just over 48 hours left of this season our campers and counselors set out to enjoy every last moment of today. After a fantastic breakfast from Chef Leonard and his team Kenwood's Junior campers set out on an excursion to the water slides of Whale's Tale. I was fortunate to be able to join them, and together we rode every slide and spent a lot of time kicking back in the hot tubs. Check out the short video from our adventure. It was great to spend an entire day with our very happy campers.

The end of color war and a relaxing day at our summer camp in NH

We woke up this morning with Evergreen having completed their Color War, and Kenwood in the final day of its tournament.  Our Evergreen girls woke up late and came to breakfast at a leisurely pace in their pajamas. Just after eating they left on a really fun trip to a local NH attraction. The girls were so happy to have this day to all be together, just hanging out, laughing, and having fun. Here are two great pictures that a group of our freshmen and their counselors took while out of Camp today.

The end of Green and Gold, and Kenwood's Rope Burning special event

Tonight was the end of Green and Gold, the color war for our girls' camp. After one final day of sports our two teams spent the evening practicing the four songs that they would sing at tonight's final event called Song and Cheer. I was fortunate to have some time to watch both teams in their final practices. They both sounded confident and excited for tonight's big event. Take a look!

Rope Burning Is An Amazing Special Event At Our Summer Camp

Posted by Jason Sebell on Aug 11, 2014 5:26:00 AM

Rope Burning is an amazing special event at our summer camp

Today was Truce Day for Camp Kenwood's Color War. Our boys took a day off from this week's special event. Evergreen continued with day #3 of their Color War. Tonight was one of the favorite events of the entire summer: Rope Burning. While our younger campers watched and cheered our 15-year old Juniper girls took part in a race to see which team could build a fire tall and strong enough to burn a rope suspended 10 ft in the air. I shot and edited a video of tonight's event (actually, I used 5 different cameras so that I could get the proper angles for you to truly understand how awesome this amazing special event is). I hope that you enjoy it!

A great day of color war at our brother-sister summer camp in NH

As brother-sister summer camps we have different events with different traditions for our boys' and girls' camps. Today was day #2 for Camp Kenwood's Color War, and day #1 for Evergreen. We had a whole lot going on today from sunrise to sunset! I put together a video of some of the moments and scenes from today. I thought that it might be fun to show some of what our campers do during this amazing special event we have each summer!

Our brother-sister summer camp in NH is focused on teaching 21st century skills in a traditional overnight camp setting. We invite you to learn about our community where children have fun, make friends and develop skills for life.

Amazing Special Events For Both Kenwood and Evergreen

Today was another very busy day at our summer camp in NH. Just after breakfast Kenwood began its first day of Color War. All morning and afternoon campers were participating in all of the team and individual sports we have worked on over the last 5+ weeks of the summer. During this first day of Color War our boys played games of hockey, basketball, ultimate frisbee, tennis, archery and speedball. Tonight, after dinner, the teams squared off in the hollow for the annual first night activity of this special event: Capture the Flag.

The Start Of Another Amazing Special Event: Maroon and Grey 2014!

Posted by Jason Sebell on Aug 7, 2014 4:20:00 AM

The start of another amazing special event: Maroon and Grey 2014!

Tonight, we began another amazing special event at our summer camp in NH. After dinner and free play our Kenwood and Evergreen inters & juniors put on their musical theater production of "Seussical". After almost 5 weeks of working on this show our young actors were extremely excited to perform in front of the community. I will try and post some clips from this show tomorrow, but let me say in advance that the performances were AMAZING. You could see from the audience how much fun they were all having. The singing, dancing and acting was great, and the choice to move the production outside was both novel and enjoyable for everyone. Bravo to our inters and juniors who worked so hard on this great musical!

After the play our Evergreen girls headed back to their bunks, while Kenwood had an event called Plaque and Skit night. Each bunk wrote a funny skit and acted it out in front of the rest of the boys' camp. Just as our 12-year old campers were finishing off their performances this message flashed across a screen in our theater tent:

Today's Carnival was yet another amazing special event

Posted by Jason Sebell on Aug 4, 2014 4:40:00 AM

Today's Carnival was yet another amazing special event

Today was another favorite annual Kenwood & Evergreen event, and a tremendous end to a weekend of non-stop fun.  All morning our campers and counselors were working together to prepare for this afternoon’s Carnival.  This year’s theme was Disney’s Frozen, and it had both campers and counselors very excited.  As if we weren’t hearing it a lot already this summer, all day we heard kids singing “Let it go!” Just after lunch our Evergreen Freshmen campers got dressed up in all sorts of costumes, taking on the roles of Elsa, Olaf, Anna, Kristoff and so many others.  They sang short, humorous songs that their counselors wrote for them about how great their characters were, and the entire girls’ camp cheered for each of our littlest performers.

This Hollowpallooza Was An Amazing Special Event!

Posted by Jason Sebell on Aug 3, 2014 3:31:00 AM

This Hollowpallooza was an amazing special event for everyone at our summer camp in NH

What a day to remember at Camp! This afternoon and evening our community came together for our 13th annual music festival called Hollowpallooza. Over the course of 5 hours our campers demonstrated every skill that we work on during the summer.  In performing in front of their friends they took healthy risks, showed off the skills that they had spent the summer honing, and received overwhelming support in response.  They were in charge of selecting their songs and arrangements, putting together their own bands, and flexing creative muscles that many didn’t even know they had.  In their band practices and on stage tonight we saw many of them take on meaningful leadership roles.  We also saw them learning how to collaborate in groups, and how to take in the opinions of others without compromising their artistic visions.  We also had 55 different acts where campers worked on a project over the course of five weeks, and saw it through with a glorious finish.  What an incredible event!

Powerful role models at Camps Kenwood and Evergreen

Like an Eagles' song today just had a peaceful, easy feeling to it. At 7am I was down at the Evergreen waterfront with our Polar Bear swimmers and Adventure Dave. After 10 jumping jacks everyone dove off of the docks. Unlike two weeks ago, the water was much chillier, and with great delight everyone began shrieking and laughing. Afterwards, we had pastries and hot chocolate provided by Chef Leonard and his team.

Amazing activities at our brother-sister summer camp in NH

As is the case almost every day, our campers were involved in a lot of trips and tournaments today. The Kenwood juniors climbed Mt. Cardigan while Kenwood's freshmen headed out on their Belle Island canoe trip. The Evergreen 9's, 11's, 13's and 15's headed to another camp for a swim tournament. The Kenwood 2nd year seniors returned triumphant from their 3-day white water canoe trip on the Androscogin river. Here are two short clips from their amazing adventure.
