21st century skills summer camp: teaching children empathy

As a summer camp that teaches children 21st century skills, a key outcome that we try to impart on our campers is the importance of empathy. Valuing and understanding the perspectives of others is a necessary trait for being an effective leader, for adapting to the changes life will bring, and for being a quality participant in any collaboration.

On This Movie Monday We Think About Our Summer Camp Brotherhood

Posted by Jason Sebell on Sep 22, 2014 12:15:00 PM

On this #MovieMonday we are thinking about our powerful summer camp brotherhood

There have been a lot of recent reminders about how powerful it is to be a part Camp Kenwood's brotherhood. I've also seen great examples of the same intense connection that girls and women feel as part of the Evergreen sisterhood. In about an hour Scott, Walshy, Catherine and I will join dozens of K&E alumni, current parents and staff at the Mickey's Kids Golf Tournament. Mickey was an icon in our community, and a beloved member of our Camp family, for almost 40 years. In his memory, and in honor of the values of inclusion and kindness that he brought to our brother-sister summer camp, we will be playing to raise money for a charity that helps provide camper scholarships for economically disadvantaged children. I'm so proud to be a part of a community that still honors one of its members almost 15 years after his untimely passing.

A New Movie About Camp Evergreen's Powerful Sisterhood #moviemonday

A New Movie About Evergreen's Powerful Sisterhood #moviemonday

It's #MovieMonday again at our brother-sister summer camp in NH. This week we'd like to premier a video titled "Evergreen is a Powerful Sisterhood". It's set to an alma mater that one of our teams sang at the end of this summer's color war. I think it shows the deep emotions that our campers and staff feel about Camp, and for each other. It also conveys how powerful the bond of sisterhood is for our girls.

How Jason & Deena Met At Our Brother/Sister Summer Camp in NH

An article about how Jason & Deena met at our brother/sister summer camp in NH

There are many reasons why friendships made at our brother/sister summer camp in NH last a lifetime. Our campers quickly learn that our community values being a good friend above all else. Our counselors model kindness and approachability at our new camper events, on the bus ride to NH, and from the moment children step onto campus. Once a part of our summer camp in NH children learn how to be their best selves, which helps them forge deeper and longer-lasting relationships.

We premier a new amazing summer camp movie

With summer officially coming to an end today we want to announce a new future of our blog and facebook page: #moviemonday. Each Monday we will present a video about our brother/sister summer camp in NH. Some were made by our campers, many were made by our talented film counselor Jillian DiBlasio, and others were created by me. We hope that you enjoy them, and learn even more about our incredibly powerful summer camp community.

For the next few months all of the #mondaymovie clips will be brand new ones, not previously available on our youtube channel or blog. Many thanks to Jillian for putting together this film of our inter and junior theatrical production of "Seussical"!
