So what is a brother sister summer camp? We get asked that question all the time. Is it the same as a coed camp? Actually, it’s an incredible hybrid: it’s not quite coed and it’s not quite single gender. It's the best of both! A brother sister overnight camp is actually two separate camps on the same property that have different sleeping areas, weekday activities, and traditions, and yet come together for meals, daily community meetings, and on the weekends for special events.
Last week I posted a video that a group of our campers worked on over the course of our 7 week summer camp season. If you haven’t seen it yet I highly recommend giving it a look. It’s creative, funny, and visually beautiful, and these kids wrote, acted, directed and edited it themselves. Their film The Underwater Counselor Lounge: The True Story could not have been made without the help of our incredible film counselors Hannah Hefey and Kaitlin Smith.
Our brother sister summer camp community lasts all year long
The amazing summer of 2014 at Camps Kenwood and Evergreen ended one week ago. While the members of our camp family are now scattered all over the four corners of the globe we wanted to remind you that our brother-sister summer camp community lasts all year long. Just days after saying goodbye to everyone at the bus stops the Sebells and Brody families were in Ogunquit, Maine, and we were thrilled to see Brooke Spiegel and her family, and Brandon Mauricio and his. We look forward to a fall and winter of bumping into as many of our campers, counselors, parents and alumni as we can!
A brother-sister camp is a hybrid: it’s not quite coed and it’s not quite single gender. A brother-sister camp is actually two separate camps that come together from time to time for joint activities. Camp Kenwood for Boys and Camp Evergreen for Girls are both single gender camps that exist on the same property. Our campers never spend time in the living areas of the other camp, and they take different pathways to and from activity areas.
