Today was one of those days where I kept saying to myself "our kids and staff really seem to love this place". No matter where I went -- activities, in the bunks, the kitchen, a soccer tournament -- I saw the people in our community cheering, supporting one another, and simply having the best time together.
For many years our summer camp has had an annual contest called "Where Your Camp Shirt". The rules are pretty simple: the camper or campers in each camp who travel the farthest from our beautiful campus in Wilmot, New Hampshire and snap a photo wearing a piece of camp apparel win a CampsK&E-related prize created just for them.
Yesterday was International Wear Your Summer Camp T-Shirt Day and we were so excited to see how much Camps Kenwood and Evergreen spirit was on display. This collection of photos below only captures some of the people in our overnight camp community who participated! Throughout the day it was great to see current and future campers, counselors, some our wonderful medical team, and even alumni proudly wearing their camp t-shirts and sweatshirts.
This is a community that creates quite a bit of camp spirit. Not surprisingly, we tend to see even more than normal during our annual Color War special events. And while there's a lot to write about today in terms of how I saw our kids and counselors show their camp spirit today, no one even comes close to the two people in the picture below standing with Scott and me.
At our summer camp in New Hampshire we know that many first-time campers and parents are an ever changing combination of excited and nervous. That’s perfectly natural, and something we have a lot of experience helping with. One thing that we’ve learned is that it’s important to provide new families with tools to help them both prepare for their first overnight camp experience, and give them real insight into what it’s like to be a member of our camp community.
A common question we are asked by campers is “what will I be doing during free time?” In an age of constant connectivity, many campers wonder what they will be doing when their mobile electronic devices are at home for the summer. Recently, I wrote about two games that our boys and girls love playing when they aren’t at regular activities: Magic: The Gathering and Sleeping Queens. If you aren’t familiar with these games I highly recommend checking out those two blogs!
Our very happy campers have year round camp spirit
This week I got a nice note from the Erman family. While on vacation in Colorado they bumped into the Edinburgs! Mrs. Erman sent us this great photo of all four of our campers together, and it reminded us that it was time to talk about this year's photo contests.
