While Camp doesn't officially start until June 27th, for us the summer of 2015 began this past weekend with our two incredible camp events: the Junior Counselor Training Weekend, and our New Camper Party in Westchester, NY. Both are designed to help our community members prepare for a new adventure, and decrease any nervousness that they might have about their upcoming trip to Wilmot, NH in June. More on the New Camper Party later in the week, but today and tomorrow I'll be writing about the JC Weekend.
Today was Scott's birthday, and along with the celebration comes a really cool tradition. Phyllis gives him 2 dozen roses, which he then hands out to people who have made a recent difference in his life or in Camp’s. As each rose is given out, Scott thanks the recipient and explains why he is giving it to them. From there, the holders of the roses travel around the room and give theirs to someone who has made a difference in their recent lives. It's incredibly powerful to watch a group of people from around the world pause for a moment to sincerely thank friends and coworkers for being kind and caring.
