Last December longtime Kenwood camper Ryan Levine was named by the City of Cleveland as its "Person of the Month". Ryan took it upon himself to create an event called the Kids Film It Festival. It was a chance for young auteurs to get some exposure for their movies, and at the same time it raised over $30,000 to help find a cure for Parkinsons Disease.
As we announced in early March, this evening was our overnight camp in NH's 8th annual Camper Film Festival. Throughout the last 7 weeks of this summer campers as young as 8 have been working with Hannah and Kaitlin, our two fantastic film making instructors, making all sorts of different types and styles of movies.
At tonight's film festival our community gathered in our theater to watch the best of what they had made. Everyone got into the spirit of the event. Our Junior Counselors made enough hot popcorn for 200 people. Ceramics Andy and Salvador from Cooking handmade chocolate Oscar statues and wrapped them in gold foil for the winners in each category. Some kids and counselors even dressed up in their finest camp outfits. I'm thinking that next year we'll have an actual red carpet.
This was a really wonderful special event. It's so great that our community can come together on a night like this to celebrate the artistic vision and hard work of our campers. They wrote the scripts, auditioned the actors, created storyboards, edited and even wrote original soundtracks. We are so proud of them and hope that you enjoy them all! Over the course of the next few weeks I'll make sure to put them all up on the Official Camps Kenwood and Evergreen Youtube Channel.
Today was a lovely day at our overnight camp, from start to finish. When I woke up the camp just after 7:30am the sun was shining and everything looked beautiful. As is the case on such nice days, everyone walked up to breakfast in a really good mood. From there until the sun set everywhere I went I saw people having good times with great friends.
It's almost time! The start of the summer of 2015 is just over 100 days away, and we cannot wait. We have so many exciting plans for this summer, and will be sharing many of them in this blog over the coming weeks.
The Importance Of The Arts At Our Summer Camp In NH, and Jell-O Wrestling
It feels like every day at our summer camp in NH has a particular characteristic or flavor to it. This past Saturday was all about spirit and being a part of a team effort. Sunday was about critical problem solving. Today was all about being creative at our many art studios.
