Sometimes I forget how important it is to explain every facet of a situation to children. Recently, my kids made the switch from baths with baby liquid soap to showering with bar soap. When I asked him how he felt about this he remarked "I don't know...it's so dry and sticky. I'm just not sure that it's really doing anything". It turns out he did not figure out on his own that this product needed to be wet in order to function properly. 20+ years as a camp professional and it didn't occur to me that I would need explain to him how soap works. My bad!
There's nothing like your camp friends...and making new ones!
Our campers and staff really like being together, and we all find it hard to be away from each other for so long after the summer ends. This past weekend we had our first off-season camp event of the fall and about 60 boys and girls from around the Tri-State area joined us at the GAGA Center in NYC. For about 2 hours we played their favorite playground game, ate pizza, and just enjoyed being together with our camp friends. There was so much hugging, cheering and smiling. A great time was had by all!
