Our amazing Boston Area New Camper Party was two weeks ago, and now we are thrilled to host another at the House of Sports in Ardsley, NY this coming Sunday. New Camper Parties go a long way towards helping our newest campers and camp parents feel great about joining our brother-sister summer camp community, and give families an opportunity to meet some of our year-round team and counselors. Our camp experience is all about making new friendships, and we want that to start before the summer even begins!
There are times when I'm talking about our summer camp community that people give me a look that says "but realistically, could your campers really that nice to each other?" Sometimes they even come out and say "just because you tell them to care about the other members of the community doesn't mean they actually do it". During these conversations I wish I could show them moments like I saw yesterday at our New Camper Party in the Boston area. In such a short time we were already seeing how effectively our staff can teach a group of kids be more empathetic.
Children walk away from our New Camper Parties excited and energized for their first summer at our brother-sister summer camp in NH. And yet, in the days before these events, some of our new campers express anxiety about going somewhere to meet so many new people. If that young person lives in your home please show them this quick 45 second video that highlights all of the fun and friendship making they will have at our events this May!

We are getting really excited for our upcoming New Camper Parties in the New York and Boston areas this May. New Camper Parties go a long way towards helping our newest campers and camp parents feel great about joining our brother-sister summer camp community, and give families an opportunity to meet some of our year-round team and counselors. Our camp experience is all about making close friendships, and we want that to start before the summer even begins!
Sometimes I forget how important it is to explain every facet of a situation to children. Recently, my kids made the switch from baths with baby liquid soap to showering with bar soap. When I asked him how he felt about this he remarked "I don't know...it's so dry and sticky. I'm just not sure that it's really doing anything". It turns out he did not figure out on his own that this product needed to be wet in order to function properly. 20+ years as a camp professional and it didn't occur to me that I would need explain to him how soap works. My bad!
We are getting really excited for our upcoming New Camper Parties on Sunday, May 1st and Sunday, May 15th. These amazing parties are designed to help our newest campers and camp parents from all over the United States have the opportunity to meet some of our year-round team and counselors, as well as make friends with other campers who are coming to Kenwood & Evergreen for the first time. We’ll climb on the indoor climbing walls, play some Gaga, learn Camp songs and cheers, and have a lot of fun. We’ll also serve pizza and refreshments afterwards. These are K&E events, so everything with be peanut and tree nut free, and we'll also have gluten free alternatives for our GF friends.
Please let us know if you will be able to attend either of our events for new campers by calling 781-793-0091 or emailing us at Jason@kenwood-evergreen.com.

We wanted to remind parents about the upcoming event for returning and new campers this coming Sunday, November 1st at our sister camp Everwood Day Camp in Sharon, MA. From 2:00pm - 4:00pm we'll be playing gaga and street hockey, working on art projects, and hanging with our camp friends and counselors.
Besides being a world-renowned child development expert and public speaker, Dr. Michael Thompson is also our brother/sister summer camp's consulting psychologist. Having heard him speak to groups of all sizes -- including annual training sessions with our counselors -- I am always struck by his seemingly innate understanding of children and their needs. He also has an uncanny ability to cut to the core of an issue and give parents truly helpful, insightful advice for raising their children.
We had almost 40 counselors and staff join us at our New Camper Party on Sunday. Our camp staff are so dedicated to the work that they do with our campers, and each of them was eager to welcome the newest members of our NH overnight camp community.
