It was Saturday morning so we let our campers and counselors sleep late and recharge their batteries. After a delicious meal of breakfast burritos, home fries, and 6 different types of fresh berries everyone headed back to their bunks for cleanup. Then both camps had another round of their intramural leagues. Then we all made our way to the dining hall lunch.
With Color War completed in both camps today we went back to regular life here at our summer camp in NH. Just after breakfast the Kenwood Seniors left on their final trip of the summer, enjoying the area around Dartmouth College and Hanover, NH. Scott joined them in the evening for dinner and a movie, and a great time was had by all.
While our weekdays are filled with almost 40 different fun sports, arts, waterfront and outdoor adventure activities, our weekends are all about special events that bring our brother sister camps together. This morning when our campers woke up and left the cabins they saw counselors all over the property dressed up as different famous cartoon characters.
This was the final day of our Homecoming Weekend at our brother-sister overnight camp. To close out this incredible weekend this afternoon we celebrated with our annual camp carnival. This special event goes back to our founding in 1930, and it is also a great day for fun, creativity, and good times with friends. After all of the excitement of yesterday's Hollowpallooza music festival we slept a little late, and then began to prepare for this afternoon's amazing special event. Every camper and counselor was very excited for this year's theme: Star Wars.
Friday, , just after Services and the showing of the weekly video wrap up, we brought everyone in the community to the tent. The kids weren't quite sure what was going on, though many of the older campers suspected that something was up. And they were right, for it was time for the Big Weekend Breakout.
So what is a brother sister summer camp? We get asked that question all the time. Is it the same as a coed camp? Actually, it’s an incredible hybrid: it’s not quite coed and it’s not quite single gender. It's the best of both! A brother sister overnight camp is actually two separate camps on the same property that have different sleeping areas, weekday activities, and traditions, and yet come together for meals, daily community meetings, and on the weekends for special events.
This is just a reminder that tonight is our brother-sister summer camp's first fall special event of 2015. This amazing event is open to any child who was a Freshmen, Sophomore or Inter camper in 2015, along with parents and younger siblings.
If you are a family considering Kenwood & Evergreen for the future you are also cordially invited to this event. Come meet us and see how friendly and fun our community is!
Join us for an evening of rock climbing, gaga, and hanging with camp friends. This event will be from 7pm - 9pm at the Rock Club in New Rochelle, NY.
